At the closing of the Berlin Film Festival, Todd Field and Cate Blanchett attended the premiere of their short film “The Fundraiser,” set in the “Tár universe.”
While presenting the film with its cast, Field confirmed that the short would not be screened again.
Although attendees have already seen the film, little is known about it. It’s quite funny, really. Nobody wants to reveal what it’s about. As if those who saw it had sworn to secrecy, never to divulge its details.
The short takes place in a single setting, at a lavish charity gala, attended by Lydia Tár (Blanchett) and her partner Sharon (Nina Hoss).
Field admitted that the short film scene was never intended to appear in the final feature, but they had so much fun filming it that they decided to edit it as a standalone piece, which then became this ephemeral short film, meant to be seen only once in a lifetime. “TÁR” fans on social media are justifiably excited. Outraged.
Blanchett and Field are now headed to the SAG and PGA ceremonies this weekend. Blanchett is the favorite to win Best Actress for “Tár.” The film itself probably won’t win the PGA; what a shame.
