Bandits (2001)

Sarah Paulson once said she would love to work with Cate Blanchett again, after having done Ocean’s 8 together, because Cate is very funny, and it’s true.

Just watch her in Bandits and in many of her interviews to appreciate her sense of humor.

In 2001, Cate Blanchett joined the cast of Bandits, an American film directed by Barry Levinson and also starring Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton, the latter being the screenwriter of Cate Blanchett’s previous film, The Gift.

Billy Bob Thornton received the National Board of Review’s Best Actor award in 2001 and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor – Comedy or Musical. Cate Blanchett also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Comedy or Musical.

In the film, two friends and convicts, Joe (Bruce Willis) and the neurotic, hypochondriac Terry (Billy Bob Thornton), escape from Oregon State Penitentiary in a truck.

During their escape, they decide to rob banks, and one of their rules is never to take hostages. However, a housewife, Kate (Cate Blanchett), decides to flee her disastrous marriage and ends up in the hands of the criminals.

Kate completely changes the dynamic between Joe and Terry, who was never actually a hostage and joins the team to carry out the robberies.

Cate not only gives a hilarious performance, but we also see her in all her glory, singing, dancing, and entertaining us on screen, alongside the hypochondriac Billy Bob Thornton and the romantic Bruce Willis.
