Heartland-Burned Bridge Cate Blanchett

Heartland-Burned Bridge (1994)

In 1994, Cate Blanchett starred in the Australian series Heartland-Burned Bridge.

Heartland, also known as Burned Bridge, ran for thirteen episodes and starred Ernie Dingo and Cate Blanchett.

Heartland addresses the mystery surrounding the death of a young Aboriginal woman and the doubts surrounding the guilt of her boyfriend, who is arrested for her murder.

It also revolves around the love story between Elizabeth Ashton (Cate Blanchett) and Vincent Burunga (Ernie Dingo), who face criticism because Elizabeth is a white woman and he is Aboriginal.

Throughout the series, we see the cultural differences between them, the obstacles they face from their own families and their environment.

And also the attempted dispossession of the Aboriginal community’s land by the real estate industry, alongside the search for the young woman’s killer, who is presumed to be her boyfriend simply because of his origin and skin color. The arrival of Elizabeth Ashton causes distrust in the community, which already faces suspicion of “white people,” but through this coexistence Elizabeth also learns about the religious and social customs and the spiritual life of the area, which Vincent himself will have to face at some point.
