Cate Blanchett never says no to small roles that portray diverse women.
In Pushing Tin, Cate Blanchett plays Connie Falzone, the seemingly devoted and naive wife of Nick Falzone (John Cusack), an egocentric air traffic controller who immediately enters into competition with Billy Bob Thornton (Russell Bell) to prove who is the best.
Nick, seemingly successful at work, is unmotivated and boring in his personal life, until he meets Russell Bell, an impeccable air traffic controller who quickly earns the respect of his colleagues.
The competition intensifies when Nick meets Russell’s wife, Mary Bell (Angelina Jolie), with whom he doesn’t hesitate to cheat on Connie. Then, to ease his guilt, he leads her to believe that Russell is interested in her, which isn’t far from the truth.

Cate’s role as the seemingly unconditional and innocent wife does not go unnoticed, but although she serves as unconditional support to her boring husband, she seeks in her own way to continue growing with her painting classes and later French classes taught by Russell.
