The Monuments Men (2014)

The Monuments Men is a 2014 war film directed by George Clooney, written and produced by Clooney and Grant Heslov. The cast includes Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, and Cate Blanchett.

The film is based on a true story, recounted in the 2007 book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History, by Robert M. Edsel and Bret Witter.

The film follows an Allied group from the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program, tasked with finding and rescuing works of art and other culturally significant objects before they are destroyed or stolen by the Nazis during World War II.

Cate Blanchett interpreta a Claire Simone a fictional character is inspired by the French ast historian and member of the French Resistance at the World War II Rose Antonia Maria Valland.

Claire is a French art historian who, by the time of the German occupation of France during the World War II, is forced to work for the Nazis, and is put in paid service by them to become the overseer of the Jeu de Paume Museum in Paris.
